Rivermen Split on Weekend!

Your Langley Rivermen played a home and home preseason set with the Surrey Eagles this past weekend and the 2 teams split wins.

Langley went into the South Surrey Arena on Friday night to play the first of the 2 game set with the Eagles.  Surrey had dressed a line up made up of mostly veterans and Langley dressed all prospects with the exception of Bo Pellah as the only veteran to play for the 'Men'.  By all accounts Langley put forth a good effort but were unable to record a goal and drop the set by a final score of 5-0.

On Saturday night at the Langley Sportsplex the roles were reversed.  Langley dressed mostly veterans and Surrey tried out their prospects.  What a difference maker as this game was all Rivermen as they defeated the Surrey Eagles by a final score of 8-3.  The turn out from fans was great and by all that I spoke to were pretty excited for this team moving on into the regular season.  Fans seemed to like the size and speed that Head Coach Bobby Henderson and Associate Coach Jordan Emmerson have put together for the 2012/13 campaign so far.

Next up for the Rivermen is a trip to the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam with a preseason tilt with the Coquitlam Express on Monday night.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Langley Rivermen game scheduled for September 1, 2012 at the Aldergrove arena has been canceled.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

This weekend the Rivermen were also at the International Festival which is held at the LEC Park.  This event is very well attended as folks can get a sample of different cultures from around the world.  Dancing, Singing, Food and demonstrations can be what people can expect when going to one of these festivals.  A special thank you goes out to the fans that stopped by our booth to say hi and I look forward to seeing you all at the Home Opener.

As for now your up to date.  See you at the rink.

Rivermen Training Camp in Full Swing!

The Langley Rivermen's 2012 training camp has officially begun at the Langley Sportsplex.  The guys have endured fitness training and have completed their first round of mini games.  You can really sense the buzz around the rink as this team is looking to form.  There are a lot of great talented players bidding for a spot on this years team.  The coaching staff has some tough decisions to make but I can guarantee no one has worked harder than new Head Coach Bobby Henderson and Associate Coach Jordan Emmerson during this off season to bring the best players to the camp.

Great Time at Brigade Days

The Langley Rivermen were in full force at Brigade Days in Fort Langley on Monday.

Brigade Days is a 3 day event in which the Fort Langley Historic Society puts together fun, games, and a reinactment of the fur traders who came to the Fort to trade their goods.

The fur traders were all volunteers acting out this event.  They paddled canoes down the mighty Fraser to a gun salute and a sea of over 600 people cheering them on.

Some old and a whole lot of new players were on the beach as well to welcome the volunteer fur traders.  The guys spent most of the afternoon introducing themselves to the people and handing out Rivermen tattoos to the kids in attendance.  The event was a huge success.

The Rivermen have a handful of events left before the season starts so stay tuned and hope to see you all out there.
