Cranberries and Hockey

First of all I would like to apologize for taking so long since my last blog post but as you can imagine it has been crazy busy around here lately what with hockey season started and all the great community events that I have been attending the last couple of weeks.

This Saturday, October 6, 2012 is the annual Cranberry Festival held on the main drag in Fort Langley.  Cranberry farmers from all over the Lower Mainland will have there cranberries on location for sampling and to purchase plus many vendors from local businesses will be there to showcase their expertise.  There will be live entertainment as well as a kids play area so bring the entire family down for the festivities from 10am - 4pm.

On Saturday night the Rivermen will host the first of a back to back game against the Prince George Spruce Kings.  Make sure to get your tickets and bring the whole family as you will not want to miss this.  The last time these 2 teams played each other was at the BCHL Showcase where the Spruce kings defeated the 'Riv' in OT.  Puck drops at 7:15pm at the LEC.

Sunday will be the back end of this back to back series.  At the conclusion of the game will be the first skate with the Rivermen.  Fans, bring your skates because immediately following the game you can have a chance to meet, get autographs and skate with your favorite hockey players.  I will be out there as well and I always look forward to taking pictures with the fans and having fun.  The skate is included in your admission to the game.  Rentals are provided for an additional fee.  Puck drop on Sunday is 2pm.

Three Letters. B.B.Q.

On Sunday the Rivermen were in attendance at the annual BBQ on the Bypass in Langley.  BBQ Pitmasters from across North America competed for the coveted prize and bragging writes to be named the best BBQ creators.

There were more than 5000 people that came throughout the day.  Many of which came by to say hi at our booth.  Kids came by and tried to score goals in our net that we had set up and the players handed out free tickets to the fans for our Home Opener.  There was even a special visit to the booth by Langley Township Mayor Jack Froese.  The Mayor wished us good luck this season and to bring home the Fred Page Cup.  It was great seeing everyone come out.

Speaking of the Home Opener, tickets are still available for the game this Saturday September 22, 2012. The Alberni Valley Bulldogs pay a visit to the LEC for a puck drop of 7:15pm.  Tickets are only $10 for Adults, $7 for Students/Seniors, and children under 6 are always FREE.  To get your tickets you can visit langleyrivermen.com, the Langley Event Centre Box Office or call (604)882-8800.

Food for Thought

If you were thinking that this Sunday would be a great day to try some BBQ then you have come to the right place.  Sundays September 16, 2012 marks the 7th annual BBQ on the Bypass in Langley.

People come from all over to try some over 30 BBQ PITMASTERS creations.  Pit masters get judged on their BBQ creations.  The event is held on the Langley Bypass located in the Buns Master Parking lot at 20711 Langley Bypass.  The Rivermen will be there, so come on by for a free ticket to the home opener or tattoo's for the kids or just to say hello.  We would love to see you all down there.  The event is from 10am - 4pm.

On Friday, the Rivermen pay a visit to Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre in Coquitlam to take on the Coquitlam Express.  Langley will be looking to end the hot goal tending of Cole Huggins for the Express as he has been impressive thus far recording 2 shut outs in a row and earning his team 4 points after the Showcase.  The Rivermen are a team to be reckoned with this season as they had 3 out of a possible 4 points themselves last weekend.  Should be a great game so come on out and support your team Langley.  Puck Drop is 7pm.

I couldn't think of a better weekend.  Hockey and BBQ does it get any better?

As for now your up to date.  See you at the rink.

Cars, Food, Fans

It was a great day on Saturday at the Langley Cruise In Car Show in Langley City.  Car enthusiasts of all ages attended one of North Americas largest car shows.  There were more than 600 vehicles that were up for viewing yesterday and also people were able to experience an American institution as In and Out Burger was there to provide great tasting burgers.  It must have been worth the wait as there was a 2 1/2 hour wait to get one of the delicious burgers.

This was a great opportunity for Rivermen fans to come by our booth and say hi and talk hockey.  I had many photo opportunities with fans as they walked by and today my hand is pretty sore with all the high fives that I received.  Fans received free tickets and lots of tattoo's for the kids.  Special thank you to the Rivermen players for helping hand out all the free tickets and tattoo's.  Another special thank you to Levy's Source for Sports for being very accommodating to the team and myself.

Next up this busy weekend is a tilt with the Prince George Spruce Kings at the BCHL Showcase Sunday.  This game marks the final game of the BCHL Showcase.  If you are looking for something affordable to do today then why not come out to the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack to see your Rivermen in action.  Tickets are only $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and youth and $5.00 for children.  Puck drop is 6pm tonight.  If you can't come out to the game you can catch all the action on PPV at fasthockey.com or Listen Live for free as Brandon Astle brings all the action as it happens at the listen live link on langleyrivermen.com.

As for now your up to date.  See you at the rink.

Cruise In Saturday

The Langley Cruise in car show is this Saturday in Langley City and the Rivermen will be there to hand out tickets to the Home Opener on September 22, 2012.  We will be located outside of Levy's Source for Sports with our table.  Come on over and say hi and get a autograph and tickets or just to say hi as the new and returning players will be there for the day.

The Langley Cruise in car show is one of the largest car shows in North America.  The show is attended by more than 100,000 people each year from all over North America.  Car enthusiasts can expect more than 500 different vehicles to be on display.  With that kind of variety you are sure to find your dream machine to drool over.  There will also be fun and games for the kids so bring down the whole family.  The weather is calling for sunshine which will make for a great day.

Don't forget fans that today also marks the start of the BCHL Showcase which takes place in Chilliwack at the Prospera Centre.  The event runs the weekend with all 16 BCHL teams playing 2 regular season games and the players have a chance to showcase their talents to many scouts from the NHL, College and University.  The first game of the Showcase starts today at 3:30pm as the Rivermen take on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.  If you can't make the game then make sure to watch on PPV on fasthockey.com or listen live for free on the Langley Rivermen Broadcast Network @ langleyrivermen.com as Brandon Astle brings you all the action.

Great Turnout in Aldergrove

The Rivermen played their final game of the preseason to a packed house in Aldergrove last night as they hosted the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League(NAHL).  Fans young and old came out in droves to get a sneak peak at this years edition of the Langley Rivermen and although the team came up short the fan response was extremely positive.  Most of the fans I spoke to were very excited to see what this team can do when it really counts.

The coming week will be very busy for the Riv as they prepare for the BCHL Showcase which starts this Friday with a match against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs @ 3:30pm.  Come on out and support your team.  If you are unable to make the game, it will be available on fasthockey.com and the Langley Rivermen Broadcast Network as Brandon Astle will bring you all the action.  Just click on the listen live link at langleyrivermen.com.

Rivermen Attention in Aldergrove

The Langley Rivermen will play their final preseason game with a tilt with the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) at Aldergrove Arena on Sunday September 2, 2012 @ 7pm.

This game will mark the fifth and final preseason game for the Rivermen and it comes with a huge test in the form of the Wild.  The Rivermen are starting to take shape now and fans can expect to see most of the regulars in the line up. Langley has a 2-1-1 record going into tomorrows game.

Wenatchee will be playing their third game in as many nights when they come to town.  They have had a pretty impressive run this preseason as well with a record of 2-1 against BCHL teams with a tilt tonight with the Penticton Vees in the South Okanagan Events Centre.  The game tomorrow will also mark their final preseason contest against BCHL teams.

The cost to get into the game is FREE so come on out and fill the rink for the 'Riv'.  Again the time for the game is 7pm @ Aldergrove Arena. (2882 272nd Street, Langley, BC).  Come on out and enjoy the game.

Rivermen Split on Weekend!

Your Langley Rivermen played a home and home preseason set with the Surrey Eagles this past weekend and the 2 teams split wins.

Langley went into the South Surrey Arena on Friday night to play the first of the 2 game set with the Eagles.  Surrey had dressed a line up made up of mostly veterans and Langley dressed all prospects with the exception of Bo Pellah as the only veteran to play for the 'Men'.  By all accounts Langley put forth a good effort but were unable to record a goal and drop the set by a final score of 5-0.

On Saturday night at the Langley Sportsplex the roles were reversed.  Langley dressed mostly veterans and Surrey tried out their prospects.  What a difference maker as this game was all Rivermen as they defeated the Surrey Eagles by a final score of 8-3.  The turn out from fans was great and by all that I spoke to were pretty excited for this team moving on into the regular season.  Fans seemed to like the size and speed that Head Coach Bobby Henderson and Associate Coach Jordan Emmerson have put together for the 2012/13 campaign so far.

Next up for the Rivermen is a trip to the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam with a preseason tilt with the Coquitlam Express on Monday night.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Langley Rivermen game scheduled for September 1, 2012 at the Aldergrove arena has been canceled.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

This weekend the Rivermen were also at the International Festival which is held at the LEC Park.  This event is very well attended as folks can get a sample of different cultures from around the world.  Dancing, Singing, Food and demonstrations can be what people can expect when going to one of these festivals.  A special thank you goes out to the fans that stopped by our booth to say hi and I look forward to seeing you all at the Home Opener.

As for now your up to date.  See you at the rink.

Rivermen Training Camp in Full Swing!

The Langley Rivermen's 2012 training camp has officially begun at the Langley Sportsplex.  The guys have endured fitness training and have completed their first round of mini games.  You can really sense the buzz around the rink as this team is looking to form.  There are a lot of great talented players bidding for a spot on this years team.  The coaching staff has some tough decisions to make but I can guarantee no one has worked harder than new Head Coach Bobby Henderson and Associate Coach Jordan Emmerson during this off season to bring the best players to the camp.

If you would like to come out and see what kind of talent you can expect for the upcoming season then you have two more days to check out the prospects for free before the exhibition schedule officially gets under way.  Here are the dates and time of each game:

Great Time at Brigade Days

The Langley Rivermen were in full force at Brigade Days in Fort Langley on Monday.

Brigade Days is a 3 day event in which the Fort Langley Historic Society puts together fun, games, and a reinactment of the fur traders who came to the Fort to trade their goods.

The fur traders were all volunteers acting out this event.  They paddled canoes down the mighty Fraser to a gun salute and a sea of over 600 people cheering them on.

Some old and a whole lot of new players were on the beach as well to welcome the volunteer fur traders.  The guys spent most of the afternoon introducing themselves to the people and handing out Rivermen tattoos to the kids in attendance.  The event was a huge success.

The Rivermen have a handful of events left before the season starts so stay tuned and hope to see you all out there.

Awful Night a HUGE Success!!!!

The Rivermen returned home on Saturday night for their first game of 2012 after spending 2 weeks on the road. The night marked the first ever 'awful night' at the game as the boys hosted the Coquitlam Express.  Everything went wrong off the ice and everything went right on the ice as the Riv defeated the Express by a score of 5-4.

Some of the things that went wrong were a pre game mishap as Brandon Astle's video commentary was all wrong as he struggled to find the words to describe the nights game.  Then as awful as that was I came out and forgot to wear my costume.  But it wasn't all that bad as I was given the opportunity to get the crowd jacked up for the nights game.  There was awful music.  There was a beer league mini game instead of a minor hockey mini game and yours truly got to play hockey with the team.  There were bad videos on the jumbo tron and so much more.  What a awful, I mean awesome night of fun at the LEC.

Thank you all who came out and made this night truly one for the ages.

As for now your up to date. See you at the rink.

Thursday 19 January 2012

Make sure you get your tickets for this unforgettable night.  Tickets are only $10 dollars for adults, $7 dollars for students and seniors and children under 6 are always free.  Also a family of 4 can take advantage of our family ticket deal where you get 2 adult and 2 kids into the game for only $25 dollars.  So why not come out and spend a Saturday cheering on your team?  You can your tickets at the door, langleyrivermen.com or call the box office at (604)882-8800.
