Weekend Wrap Up

It was great to be a Riverman fan and a Langley resident this past weekend.  Friday, the Langley Rivermen played there first exhibition game and defeated the Wenatchee Wild in double overtime.  On Saturday we started the day out at the Langley Cruise-In Car Show.  We had a great time.  So many cars and so many people.  I did my usual, shaking hands and kissing babies.  I also had a chance to race remote control cars against some of our fans while I was down there.  I tried to come in first but those little cars go pretty fast.  Almost as fast as a Justin Cintas breakaway, so you can imagine how hard that would be to control.  The fan response was great in the downtown core of Langley.  There should be a lot of people today with Rivermen fake tattoo's littering their bodies.

On Saturday night, the Langley Rivermen played their second consecutive game @ the GPRC vs. the Wenatchee Wild.  Both teams once again did not disappoint.  There was a little more scoring than the previous nights game and although the Rivermen came out on the losing end they still potted 4 goals and fell to the Wild in a 5-4 double overtime loss.  Out of the 2 games this weekend you can bet the coaching staff is looking forward to the workload of tweaking the line-up and icing the best possible team for opening night.  After speaking with some of the coaching staff after Fridays game, they were very optimistic of the current and future stars that are in the system.

This week, the Langley Rivermen pay a visit to the South Surrey Arena to take on their cross town rivals the Surrey Eagles in exhibition play.  This game, by all accounts should have it all.    Saturday night the Langley Rivermen play their last game of the exhibition schedule as they face SFU at the Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby.  SFU has a very strong team and should fair as a great opponent for the Rivermen as they prepare for the opener on September 23, 2011.  Then on Sunday we are at it again in the community as we will be at the BBQ on the Bypass happening Saturday on the Langley Bypass.  I hope to see you all there.

That's it for now.  See you at the rink.
